I read this book in an evening, and I'm ready to read it again - to absorb more, "from the stomach up."

Home Of Our Hearts Christy Todd the Married Years Robin Jones Gunn 9780982877241 Books Reviews

As I mentioned earlier this year when Forever with You (the first book in Robin Jones Gunn’s Christy & Todd the Married Years series) was released, I grew up with Todd and Christy. I walked their relationship with them through the Christy Miller, Sierra Jensen, and Katie Weldon series. I started one of my nieces on the Christy Miller series a few years ago and another one received the first two books when I visited this summer (they’re both getting more for Christmas–good thing they don’t read my blog) ). So I am so happy to be spending even more time with Christy and Todd Spencer as they navigate the trials and tribulations of adulthood and marriage. There’s lots of joy in there as well.

I didn’t stay up all night reading this one like I did the last one–but I did finish it on this lazy Saturday. What a fun way to spend the day–visiting old friends. This book was centered on Todd, Christy, Katie, and Eli but Doug and Tracy also make a couple of appearances. Most books end with an engagement or a wedding so it’s fun to be able to walk beyond that with Todd and Christy–to see some of the things Christy really struggles with in her marriage and how her faith in God as well as her husband and her friends help her overcome those same struggles. Another thing Gunn highlights well (without going into too much detail) is the sanctity of waiting until marriage to come together–how waiting makes everything sweet and a special gift for a husband and wife on their married life.

Gunn has been a master of creating catch phrases throughout the Christy Miller books and she doesn’t stop. Home of our hearts is sure to be added to peculiar treasures, God thing, may it be so, and more.
It is so personal to me because my own daughter met her husband in college, albeit not Rancho Corona, but similar and in the same vicinity in SoCal. Sharing the adventures of Todd and Christy remind me so much of the real life adventures I am so fortunate to share with my own married children.
The characters in this series (and in all the previous books about them) are so real and genuine! I love getting to feel like I am doing life with them! I love how Robin takes the characters through phases of life and I love getting to learn lessons and grow spiritually with them. These books will challenge your faith and your walk with Christ! They will challenge you to love God more.

I highly recommend.
I love this book, I wanted to keep reading! If you haven't read the first book, you might want to. this book builds after that one. If you want to start from the beginning of the Todd and Christy stories, then start with the christy miller series. Then read the Todd and christy college years series. Then you'll be ready. But to know all the stories of all the characters, also read the song of the canaries (about Todd's dad and Caroline's story) and Katie Weldon series. Then you'll really be ready.

I have most of Robin Jones Gunn's books and I have loved everything one of them (my bookshelf reflects it). You will not regret reading her books! If you are looking for another series that's more towards mid 20's young adults, I'd suggest the Glenbrooke series. One of my favorites.
I read the Christy Miller series as a young teen in the late 80's/early 90's. Back then Christy was a character I felt like I could relate to even though it was pretty predictable from the start that she was going to eventually end up with Todd. I stopped reading the series right about the time Christy & Todd started dating seriously. When I found this series, I thought it would be fun to see how the lives of Christy & friends turned out.
The first book in the series, "Forever With You", started out promising. Although, I felt Christy & Todd seemed fairly immature for married adults in the book I felt like that issues they faced in that story were realistic. I felt like I did see some growth in both of them by the end of the story even though it is the rich aunt & uncle who are the answer to their prayers again.
****SPOILER ALERT****
In this book, Christy & Todd travel to the Canary Islands for Todd's father's wedding & then onto Africa for their friend Katie's wedding. This would've been a fun premise if it were not for the rescue of the rich relatives again along with the annoying preachiness of the author. Christy & company travel first class & have the best accommodations at both locations. While attending Katie's safari style wedding in what is supposed to be rural Africa all the tents are raised on platforms & have all the comforts of home. I laughed out loud when Katie stated that the bride & groom's tent had "a claw foot tub with running water".
Bachelorette parties are considered "dawdy", everyone drinks some "sparkling" beverage or another instead of wine, etc.
After Todd's father's wedding in the Canary Islands, Christy compares everything to the "Women of the Canaries" which made me want to throw my across the room after the 1500th comparison. Lastly were the continuous statements shoved down the reader's throat about how much more enriching & meaningful the characters' marriage will be because they waited until after the wedding to have sex.
Of course, once Christy arrives back home we learn that her wealthy relatives have bought Todd's childhood home in Newport Beach & agree to rent it to them for pennies. Give me a break!
Tears, laughter, and grace - all gifts given from old, dear friends. Blessings and lessons are scattered throughout the story as they usually are, and wisdom blooms from so many pages.

This book is all about coming home - emotionally and spiritually. And it's quite the homecoming! Christy, Todd, Katie, and Eli have all grown into amazing God-lovers, and this book is nothing short of a celebration of these peculiar treasures.
